We interviewed actress/singer Miley Cyrus while she was in Manhattan recently.
Who are your musical influences?
I love Coldplay and the Killers and John Lennon -- all dudes because I have a low voice. I do, I like that sound because it is a little more edgy.
We know you play the guitar. Do you play any other instruments and which is your favorite?
I love playing the drums. I am learning the piano, I am learning the bass, and I play the guitar. So I will continue to do more instruments.
Which is harder a TV show or a tour?
TV show is a little harder because you are at the same place every day. It is a little more boring. With the touring you get to be somewhere new every day. You never get bored. Physically a tour is hard you have to run around. You are tired today I only got two hours sleep so I am a little tired. You can't do that on tour otherwise you will just crash during the show.
"Hannah Montana" has been great for your career, but as you get older and want to explore other acting opportunities do you feel you will be able to expand to that character into other roles?
I hope so. I would love to do more movies because I like doing drama, but I would like to continue to do comedy because "Hannah Montana" is what gave me my start, and I feel that is what kids can relate to most.
What is the best and worst thing about being famous?
The best thing is the traveling and meeting new people, and the worst thing is the traveling. It is the best and worst because I am away from home all the time, also it is fun to meet new people and see new things and go places that you probably wouldn't be able to go.
If you weren't in show business what else would you like to do?
I would like to be a photographer. And, honestly, I am the worst painter, but if I could be anything I would want to be a painter, but I can't paint so that X's that out. I really wish I could draw well because I just think it is the coolest. My brother's roommate is a painter so that is what I would like to do.
What do you like to do to relax and have fun?
I love playing my guitar. I always have my guitar with me. that is my favorite thing is writing the music.
When you were growing up who was your favorite actor or actress and why?
I used to love all the Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen movies. They were my favorite. And now I love Jennifer Aniston because she can do kids movies and she does a lot of fun movies but then she also can do ones that are for older audience too. And that is what I would like to do, stay in touch with the kids and then be able to do more mature movies too.
We really love your song "The Climb." The lyrics were so inspirational. Which was your favorite line and why?
I like: I gotta be strong, keep holdin on, because the power is with you, you know? You can't let anyone else take you down, you gotta be strong. That is really important.
What was your first job in show business, and how did you get it?
My first job was actually a beans commercial. My aunt took me to the audition because my little friend was auditioning and she was taking her. She said "You should go it might be fun." I ended up getting it and my friend didn't.
If you could perform with anyone who would it be?
Coldplay, again, they are a great show. And they are so good at dancing.
What is your favorite city to perform a concert in?
Surprisingly,it is usually the smaller towns that are actually like the craziest because they are not used to having all different kinds of people traveling there. I like the smaller towns because the people get like crazy.
