We saw comedian Brian Regan at the Capital One Bank Theatre in Westbury. Before the show, we had a chance to interview him. We were extremely nervous when we first arrived, but once Brian came into the room we immediately relaxed because of his welcoming presence. He had a huge smile, shook hands with each of us and thanked us for coming to see him!

We asked him about touring, childhood and how he writes comedy among other things. He incorporated funny stories in almost every answer. The story of his first time on stage was really interesting. None of us can imagine doing comedy for a living, but we all figure the first time is definitely the most difficult.

He told us his first show was at an open mic night, which means you just go up and try out your act, and you don't get paid. You just do it to see if you're any good. Well, Brian said he was so freaked out by the bright lights, the feedback from the microphone and nerves, that he forgot every joke he wanted to tell. He ended up making fun of himself in front of the audience instead of doing the jokes he wrote, and he was shocked when he realized he got laughs, plus big compliments from professional comedians who saw him. That experience convinced him that maybe he could do this for a living. He definitely can!

At his show, the audience was doubled over with laughter. Besides his jokes and stories being funny, he makes some great faces and does a hysterical voice when he needs to tell a story about a person or kid who's not too bright. We really couldn't decide which of his jokes or stories we like best. If you've ever heard the "Brian Regan Live" CD, you know what we're talking about. We thought the current events humor was really clever, too, and Brian told us he likes his most recent material, most of the time.

Brian is hysterical, and he is not inappropriate for kids. He doesn't need to be. We all want to go see him again when he comes to New York.

You have to see this guy!
