The only all female-owned vineyard in New York, is owned by Theresa K. Dilworth, Esq., an international tax lawyer for Pfizer in Manhattan, and two Japanese businesswomen friends, Chizuko Tomita and Kayomi Hirota.

Cabernet sauvignon is the main varietal, with about 70 percent of the total. The estate vineyard also grows a few acres of merlot, Long Island's most widely grown red varietal.

In August 2004, a year after releasing its first wines to the public, the 2002 Hungarian Oak Merlot was named Best Merlot in New York at the New York Wine & Food Classic, out of 54 merlots and 194 wineries across New York state.

Comtesse Thérèse does not have its own tasting room at the vineyard. Rather, it owns The Tasting Room on Peconic Lane, off of Route 25 in Peconic. The Tasting room features limited release, hand-crafted, artisanal wines from Comtesse Thérèse as well as Schneider Vineyards, Sherwood House Vineyards, Ternhaven Cellars, and Diliberto Winery.
