Brides sporting the baby bump can walk down the aisle in style like never before.
This season the pregnant bride has more gown options, says Nancy Aucone, owner of The Wedding Salon of Manhasset, who notes that one in 10 brides walking into her store is expecting.
Los Angeles-based designer Claire Pettibone has been dressing the pregnant bride since she started her couture line four years ago. Pettibone is known for her ethereal, empire-waist styles with delicate tulle overlays. At a bride's gown fitting, Pettibone takes the month of pregnancy at the time of the wedding into consideration and leaves room for the expanding belly.
Maternity Bride has a sizing formula to ensure a perfect fit. A Pea in the Pod has great online choices and a custom-fit gown available through their retail stores. United Kingdom retailer Isabella Oliver, becoming increasingly popular in the United States, has sexy styles to make the bride and mom-to-be look chic on her special day.
Pregnancy-friendly gowns were everywhere at the recent Bridal Market in Manhattan. Goddess styles with empire waists were at Wtoo Brides by Watters and Watters and The Cotton Bride by Chris Kole. At Oscar de la Renta, a high-waist, full-skirt gown exuded high style and glamour, with lots of belly room.
