Summer's just a memory, and fall's just around the corner. If you like team sports, joining a fall league may just be the ticket. Many adult teams are forming now, with seasons that range from several months to a only a few weeks.

Here are a few options to get started:

ABA Sports Network offers basketball leagues on weeknights and weekends for men and women ages 18 and older. The fall indoor basketball season begins Sept. 15 and ends in November. Weekly games run for eight weeks, plus playoffs. Basketball is played indoors on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Syosset, and Mondays and Wednesdays in Brentwood. Mostly men play, but women are welcome. Most participants are between ages 20 and 50, says Robert Glassman, who handles registration.

Commissioner George Higgins says this league has about 6,000 players from all walks of life who work jobs ranging from landscapers to county legislators before meeting on the field on Sundays. Even though the four-month fall season started last Sunday, the league is still looking for "free agents" to join existing teams in 5-on-5 female student nonblocking leagues and 8-on-8 blocking leagues (sign up by Oct. 5). Teams play in four different divisions, based on skill and talent level.
