Whether you're a seasoned skater looking for a new spot to practice or the type who feels more comfortable cheering on others from the sidelines, here are a few Long Island skate parks:

Oil City Skatepark

Cost: $12 for first session, $7 each additional session, plus $15 one-time fee

Built by pro skateboarders inside a 13,000-square-foot warehouse, the skatepark features a 12-foot vertical ramp, plus additional ramps and rails.

Cost: $15-$20 a visit ($40-$55 initial fee)

With a bowl, fly boxes, rails, ledges, pyramids, spines, vertical ramps and 11- and 12-foot ramps and mini ramps in this 14,000-square-foot space, "you're not going to be bored," says skateboard instructor Billy Huether, 17.

Cost: $8-$20 parking fee

This fenced-in skate park is a 160-by-100-foot space with seven ramps of varying difficulty, two rails, a rubber mat surface. Helmets required.

From sunrise until the lights shut off at 11 p.m., riders can test out this 20,000-square-foot, concrete-and-wood skate park, which charges no fees, is open to the public, is unsupervised and "used at people's own risk," says village administrator Dave Abatelli. Still, skaters are required to don helmets and other protective gear while at the park, which includes a half pipe, quarter pipes and a street course.
