Summer run series at LI's state parks

A good way to discover Long Island's "off road" running routes is through the Long Island State Parks Summer Run series, held every Monday night at 7 from June 16 to Aug. 4 - each week in a different state park.

Full series registration is $50, single-race entry is $15, except for the Aug. 4 event, which is $20. To register online, visit flrrt.com. Here's the schedule for 2008:

June 16: Jones Beach State Park, 5 miles

June 23: Sunken Meadow State Park, 10K

June 30: Bethpage State Park, 5K

July 7: Robert Moses State Park, 1 mile

July 14: Hempstead Lake State Park, 4K

July 21: Belmont Lake State Park, 5K

July 28: Caumsett State Historic Park, 5K

Aug. 4: Heckscher State Park, 5 miles
