After pumpkin picking, you'll need a comfortable, kid-friendly spot for a quick meal and a break from the action. Here are four unpretentious spots, near the fields or on the way back.

Blue Moon, 26 N. Park Ave., Rockville Centre; 516-763-4900; bluemoonpizzeria.com
COST $-$$
This genial, atmospheric eatery sends out very satisfying, no-nonsense Italian-American fare. Try the manicotti or the lasagna, the panini or the calzones. And, of course, there's pizza, coal-oven variety. Precede with pasta e fagioli or antipasti; conclude with spumoni, tortoni or cannoli.

Emilio's, 2201 Jericho Tpke., Commack; 631-462-6256; restaurantrow.com
COST $-$$
A very popular pizzeria, to eat-in or to takeout, Emilio's stands out for its "old world marinara" pie, as well as the "Grandpa," finished with red onion and a sprinkling of bread crumbs; stuffed vegetable; and the white pizza. Equally recommended are the soups and the panini.

Modern Snack Bar, 628 Main Rd. (Route 25), Aquebogue; 631-722-3655; modernsnackbar.com
COST $-$$
Modern Snack Bar has been a mainstay for homey American food since 1950. Go for the roast turkey, chicken pot- pie, meat loaf, lobster salad and, if you're in an Oktoberfest mood, flavorful sauerbraten. An order of the mashed turnips is obligatory. So are the pies, from lemon meringue and coconut custard to banana cream and apple.

Suburban Eats, 610 Broadhollow Rd., Melville; 631-293-3287; suburbaneats.com
COST $
Here's a combo plate. Suburban Eats sends out sandwiches, panini, burgers, wraps, salads, brick-oven pizzas, calzones, chicken fingers. The busy place is situated on the west side of Route 110. There are some tables. And the takeout choices are dependable.
