Where to watch the game with a brew

It's a big weekend for local school sports. But if you're more attuned to out-of-state college football, the NFL or crunchtime in major-league baseball, there are plenty of places to bring you the games, with a chaser. You'll never have a shortage of big-screen TVs at these four establishments.

Champions, 101 James Doolittle Blvd., Uniondale; 516-794-3800
COST $$
The sports bar-and-restaurant has all the basics, headed by sliders, burgers, chicken wings and salads. Just in case, there's a children's menu led by pizza, hot dogs and hamburgers.

Croxley Ales, 190 Main St., Farmingdale; 516-293-7700; croxley.com
COST $-$$
The newest Croxley Ales sports 66 brews on tap and proudly proclaims that it doesn't offer Bud, Coors or Miller. The beer list is exceptional. The food includes burgers, sandwiches, pulled pork, meat loaf, shepherd's pie, chicken potpie and, just in case you need something healthful, salads.

The Main Event, 799 Old Country Rd., Plainview; 516-935-5120
COST $-$$
While scanning the TVs, you can fill up with the fundamentals of American bar chow, including burgers, steaks, fried calamari, beer-battered cod, maybe a Greek salad. The taps have a familiar lineup, from Blue Point and Samuel Adams to Stella Artois and Guinness, to the mega-brews.

Rookies Sports Club, 70 Gerard St., Huntington; 631-923-0424; rookiesny.com
COST $-$$
No surprises among the beers, with enough of the basic brews on tap. The menu is a bit more expansive, with flatbread pizzas, crab cakes, and, yes, tuna sashimi and teriyaki salmon to supplement the burgers, steaks, baby back ribs, beer-battered cod, nachos, quesadillas, Philly cheesesteaks, jumbo pretzels and a variety of chicken wings.
