Sushi has been popping up in strange places these days. Once the sacred trust of Japanese restaurants, you can satisfy your cravings in steak houses, supermarkets, food courts and more. Where do you get great sushi on Long Island?

Sakura Sushi and Japanese Food located in Merrick, on Merrick Avenue, one block South of Camp Avenue. It's a small place, but has a nice atmosphere, reasonable prices and very fresh fish. In about 6 years of living in Merrick and eating there I have yet to get a bad anything.

Shintaro on covert ave in floral park is by far the freshest fish around. i have eaten at tons of sushi places in nyc and long island and have yet to find fresher fish. The secret is to order off of the menu. Tell the chef what you like and he will prepare it for you!

Used to be. The original chef is now at Takara in Islandia. The sushi will blow you away. Amazing.

JR Sushi in Long Beach and Kotobuki in Babylon - fantastic!

I just want to second that vote for Sakura in Babylon Village. I've eaten at a bunch of sushi places, including Kotubuki in Happague as well as the one in Babylon Village, and in my opinion Sakura wins hand down.

kotubuki in babylon sucks, its just a trendy place. I feel like a head of cattle the way Ive gotten treated in there, they rush you in, pack you into your table sitting too close to the people next to you and then rush you out |

I go to San Fran for sushi or anywhere on the west coast, for that matter. Of course, Japan is the best. But when on LI, Kisso in New Hyde Park or Harusaki in Rockville Centre.

THE HAND ROLLS IN HAMA ARE LARGE AND FLAVORFUL AND KUMO HAS A FRIED EGGPLANT,LAYERED WITH SPICY LOBSTER,SPICY TUNA AND TOPPED WITH SALMON,WHICH IS DELECTABLE TO THE PALETE. BOTH PLACES ARE WORTH A TRY. |

Don't be lazy! Make your own sushi and sashimi! It's easy and better than what you will ever find in a japanese restaurant. And try making your own sukiyaki and shabu shabu. Both very easy, healthy and to die for! It's a lot of fun. Get a bottle of sake and chyoka and invite the neighbors!
