Matsulin

131 W. Montauk Hwy
Hampton Bays, NY

As you approach Matsulin, it seems you are about to enter a bank. And once, that was true. But since 2004 the building has housed a restaurant serving a variety of Asian cuisines. Stepping inside, you'll notice a soothing ambience, with Asian decor, lots of wood and soft music. Matsulin means "pine forest" in Japanese, and contains the owners' family name, Lin. The menu ranges across Malaysian, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese cooking. Popular entrees include the Matsulin fish, a whole crispy sea bass served in tangy sauce, for $23, and Malaysian curry, chicken cooked in a thick, red curry broth for $19. There is a changing list of specials, and the restaurant serves beer, wine and sake.
