TIP OF THE WEEK
Take one more club
September 14, 2006
"When playing with amateurs, the most common mistake I see is that they often under-club themselves and come up short of the green or the flagstick.
"One reason this happens is that most golfers don't hit the ball as far as they think they do. Also, many players tend to determine their club selection based on their career-best shot with that particular club, rather than their average distance.
"The next time you are deciding which club to use, choose the longer one. For example, if you are deciding between a 7-iron and a 6-iron, use the 6-iron. Give it a try. I know it will help you hit more greens and get the ball closer to the hole."
