Play ready golf

August 3, 2006

Pace of play is one of the main topics of conversation when it comes to the enjoyment of the game. I'd like to offer a few ideas to help you manage your time efficiently and effectively.

First, when it is your turn, be prepared to play. The information that you need to execute your shot (yardage, wind, hole location and club selection) can be gathered while your partners are playing. On the greens, read your putt before it is your turn; therefore you are ready to go.

Finally, when chipping or on a longer putt, pay attention to how the ball rolls beyond the hole. This will give you a free read of the putt coming back. Remember you and your partners will enjoy yourselves more if you are always ready to play."
