Salvatore's, 124 Shore Rd.; 516-883-8457. Coal-fired, brick-oven pizzas are the attraction. Go for the essential Margherita, or turn creative with toppings including ricotta, eggplant, garlic, black olives, anchovies and pepperoni. A destination.

Main 415, 415 Main St.; 516-767-6246. Several tables have water views of Manhasset Bay at this continental-new American restaurant. Try the tuna-and-salmon ceviche, tuna tartare, crab cakes, salads, eggplant rollatine, baked clams oreganata, onion soup.

Finn MacCool's, 205 Main St.; 516-944-3439. The theme is Irish, and the Guinness is professionally poured. To go with the beverages: fish-and-chips, shepherd's pie, a mixed grill that includes pork chops and chicken, pot roast with red cabbage, poached pear salad.

Louie's, 395 Main St.; 516-883-4242. A fish house that's both old-fashioned and new, Louie's is a destination for steamed lobster, basil-crusted halibut, shrimp cocktail, sesame tuna, linguine with clam sauce and the raw bar.

Cheeburger Cheeburger. 18 Soundview Marketplace, off Shore Road; 516-767-1144. A national chainlet, of which this is the western relative of the Plainview eatery. In the spirit of John Belushi and good burgers, it satisfies adults and kids. Have onion rings and fries with that.

Yamaguchi, 63 Main St.; 516-883-3500. A veteran Japanese restaurant, for the raw and the cooked.

Bonsai, 92 Main St.; 516-883-0103. Japanese cuisine, informal and to the point, for sushi and more.

Ayhan's Fish Kebab, 286 Main St.; 516-883-1515. Swordfish kebabs, beef kebabs, grilled finfish, steaks, Greek salad, more.

Ayhan's Shish Kebab, 293 Main St.; 516-767-1400. Across the street and related to Fish Kebab, a spot for pita sandwiches, kebab platters, vegetable moussaka.

Amigos, 52 Main St.; 516-883-1315. A mainstay for Mexican food, from combination plates onward. Casual and friendly, too.

Montebello, 14 Haven Ave.; 516-767-7828. Traditional, family-style Italian restaurant: mozzarella and roasted peppers, fried calamari, stuffed eggplant, penne al forno, linguine with clam sauce, veal Parmigiana, chicken Milanese, chicken scarpariello.

Bistro Toulouse, 43 Main St.; 516-708-1852. A French-continental kitchen with lots of Gallic make-up, this bistro is recommended for duck a l'orange, roast chicken breast, bacon-wrapped loin of pork, goat cheese salad and crème brûlée.
