Ben's Kosher Deli & Restaurant, 59 Old Country Rd., Carle Place; 516-742-3354. The closest branch of the reliable deli. Recommended for soups and the overstuffed sandwiches, especially corned beef, pastrami, turkey, hard salami.

Frank's Steaks, 4 Jericho Tpke., Jericho; 516-338-4595. Fine steaks are the attraction here, but the restaurant does equally well with seafood, from sesame-seared tuna to pan-seared jumbo shrimp. If you're not up for the porterhouse, strip, rib-eye, filet mignon or prime rib, there's the Kobe beef burger. Precede them with a shellfish cocktail.

Hildebrandt's, 84 Hillside Ave., Williston Park; 516-741- 0608. This establishment has been in business since 1927, fueled by ice-cream sundaes. You'll also find soups, sandwiches, salads, Italian dishes. But don't skimp on the scoops.

LL Dent, 221 Old Country Rd., Carle Place; 516-742-0940. Southern cooking is the specialty: fried green tomatoes, grits, fried chicken with collard greens and macaroni-and-cheese, barbecued brisket, pulled pork, ribs. Plus turkey meat loaf.

La Marmite, 234 Hillside Ave., Williston Park; 516-746- 1243. Go a bit west for this handsome, veteran continental restaurant. The service is excellent, and so are dishes such as crab cakes, pasta Bolognese, halibut oreganata and the high-rise gâteau Saint-Honoré.

Nagashima, 12A-1 Jericho Tpke., Jericho; 516-338-0022. If you're traveling from east of the showcase, this is a commendable stop for sushi and sashimi, with an emphasis on creative sushi rolls. Nagashima also serves very good cooked fare.

Panera Bread165 Old Country Rd., Carle Place; 516-739- 2090. Close-by branch of the chain, which highlights freshly baked goods. Tasty panini, sandwiches, soups. Quick and satisfying.

Papa Razzi, 1500 Jericho Tpke., Westbury; 516-877-7744. Casual, dependable Italian eatery for thin-crust, wood-fired pizzas; pastas, including spaghetti Bolognese and linguine with clam sauce; panini; soups and salads.

Seacrest Diner, Jericho Turnpike at Glen Cove Road, Old Westbury; 516-741-0581. The full menu at this strategically located magnet includes Italian and Green specialties, breakfast items, steaks, seafood and salads.
