Music fans wearing shorts and T-shirts will fit right in at Bobbique, 70 W. Main St., 631-447-7744, a barbecue joint where the smoky St. Louis ribs, chicken, pulled pork and brisket are complemented by fried pickle chips, mac and cheese and baked beans. Wash it all down with one of myriad beers and conclude with "Lincoln logs," ingenious little French toast sticks.

At Gallo Tropical, 3 E. Main St., 631-475-4667, the menu is Colombian, the vibe upbeat. On warm nights, French doors are thrown open to the breezes and the street. Try the barbecued chicken or the arroz con pollo, a South American take on Chinese fried rice. For dessert, the five-milk flan is required eating.

At Mangia Mangia, a lively Italian spot at 69 E. Main Street, 631-475-4774, the food is robust and vibrant. Chef Angelo Galeotafiore's spaghetti and meatballs taste as though they came from nonna's kitchen; his chicken scarpariello is made with sausage from the family salumeria, Delfiore Italian Pork Store.

The flavors of Thailand aren't the only lure at Lawan, 13 E. Main St., 631-687- 1313. Here, the dining room is dominated by a shiny samlor (something between a bicycle and a rickshaw), a conveyance that will fascinate kids. The whole family will enjoy such fare as boned chicken wings stuffed with ground chicken, vegetables and clear noodles, and red Thai curry with chicken, eggplant and basil.

The Old Olive Tree, a Greek restaurant at 124 E. Main St., 631-654-1930, has been a fixture on the local dining scene for over a quarter of a century. Grab a quick gyro or souvlaki sandwich or settle in for a meal of shish kebab, pastitsio or shrimp casserole.

Casual in ambience, epicurean in concept PeraBell Food Bar, 114 W. Main St., 631-447-7766, offers everything from a compelling nosh (miniature "pop" burgers) to a thick grilled pork chop. The bar scene, which often includes live music, really rocks.

That's also the case at BrickHouse Brewery, 67 W. Main St., 631-447-2337, a popular gathering place where beers and ales are brewed on-site. The menu ranges from a Waldorf chicken salad to a burger to a smothered rib-eye steak.

A short drive from the center of town brings you to Pita House, 680 Rte. 112, 631-289-2262, where the flavors of Turkey await. Sample the house-made gyro, both in turkey and lamb versions. At dinner, you can savor the Adana (spiced ground lamb) kebab or grilled whole fish.
