Ships Inn, 78 Main St. Northport, 631-261-3000, is a nautical spot whose chef owner, Mark Bergbuchler, offers a menu stressing seafood and pasta. The restaurant, which bought two seats at every performance at the new theater, stages a nightly drawing for tickets to a subsequent show. Bergbuchler also features breakfast on weekends, offering everything from pancakes to eggs Benedict to steak and eggs.
Skipper's Pub, 34 Main St., 631-261-3589, is offering a dinner and theater package, which, at $85 a person, includes a show ticket plus a three-course meal (entree choices include steak au poivre). Reservations must be made well in advance, since the restaurant has only six seats for each performance.
If it's a big, smoky juicy burger you crave, look no farther than the cozy
Main Street Cafe, 47 Main St., 631-754-5533, which also offers some well-executed alternatives.
Bistro 44, 44 Main St., 631-262-9744, has a shaded ivy-covered patio out back, ideal for a warm-weather meal that might begin with Thai prawns and proceed to sesame-seared tuna.
At the new
Auntie A, 225 Main St., 631-757-6700, chef-owner Angela Badolato puts an original spin on Italian classics. Her fine house-made ravioli is a must.
The Ritz Cafe, 42 Woodbine Ave., 631-754-6348, may look like a retro pub, but, lately, the food has risen above that, as a recent dinner of blackened swordfish proved.
On matinee days, the whole family will enjoy the homey breakfast and lunch dishes at
Tim's Shipwreck Diner, 46 Main St., 631-754-1797, a vintage railroad car featured in the 1996 film "In and Out."
What, no sushi in town? Keep your eyes open for the debut of
Benkei, a Japanese restaurant that should be entering the dining scene shortly at 16 Woodbine Ave., 631-262-7100.
For something cold and sweet, consider
Wolfie's Frozen Custard, 42 Woodbine Ave., 631-754-4850, a popular spot for old-fashioned frozen custard in a daily-changing array of flavors. Lic's Ice Cream, 74 Main St., 631-757-9099, serves Hershey's ice cream as well as frozen yogurt; Incredible Ices, 112 Main St., Northport, 631-261-8939, features multiple flavors of Italian ice as well as spumoni from L&B's Spumoni Garden in Brooklyn. Service can
sometimes be grumpy, but ice cream is made on site at Northport Sweet Shop, 55 Main St., Northport, 631-754-9679.
And don't forget the theater itself, 250 Main St., 631-261-2900, whose
Green Room is described by director of operations Anthony Caporale as a "high-end wood-paneled piano bar and lounge." Before and after each show, as well as during intermissions, it will be open for bar drinks as well as complimentary finger foods. Coffee and desserts will also be offered.
