Named for the late Nick Visconti, a much-beloved maitre' d at George Martin in Rockville Centre (under the same ownership), Nick Diangelo (which translates as "Nick of the Angels") is a restaurant that feeds people heartily and well. In a handsome dining room, presided over by a huge photograph of Visconti, you can dine on homey Italian fare, ordering either individual or family-sized portions.
It's hard to resist the garlicky hummus spread that accompanies crusty hunks of peasant bread. The chopped salad, made with greens, vegetables, olives, mozzarella and pieces of salami, is a knockout. Order it with the house vinaigrette (the creamy Italian is too sweet). Chicken scarpariello virtually sings with garlic, as does the fine linguini with white clam sauce.
Finish with the super nut-studded bread pudding with real whipped cream. An espresso, too. Nick wouldn't want you to deny yourself.
