At this atmospheric pub, the dark wooden booths and the Tudor-style decor evoke merrie olde England. The meat and potatoes menu, augmented by a list of specials, favors heartiness over delicacy.

The kitchen can be uneven. Burgers excel; have yours with sweet potato fries. At one dinner, very good chicken potpie, with a sage-infused cornbread topping, upstaged a special of bison steak, which was overcooked and chewy. The salads that come with most entrees are usually iceberg, mundane at best.

Sometimes, desserts are house-made and fine. A mixed berry tart would have been marvelous had it not been microwaved before being served.

Have a pint with friends and enjoy the ambience.
