Mimo's, which opened on the site of the former Asta is a narrow space, decorated with warmth and taste. It's owned by Frank Carbone, whose brother, Mimo, is chef. For the past 10 years, Mimo cooked in Palermo, Sicily. I was surprised, therefore, that the menu at the new restaurant didn't come off as authentically Sicilian. Even so, I enjoyed a lively version of clams Casino, little necks stuffed with bacon, roasted red peppers in a white wine and garlic sauce. I wished, though, that the dry reheated bread in the bread basket were worthy of the vibrant olive tapenade accompanying it. A special of house-made manicotti featured delicate ricotta-filled crepes in a mellow tomato sauce.
