Diya Fusion Indian Cuisine

43 Rockaway Ave
Valley Stream, NY 11580-5808
516-872-2223

Diya Indian Fusion Cuisine is contemporary in decor, its cuisine, according to co-owner T.J. Anand, a blend of Indian and Italian traditions. Why Italian? Although most Indian fusion incorporates Chinese influences, Anand said, the spot occupies the former digs of the Rockaway Cafe, which served Italian food.

One dish from the unusual repertoire is "harra bara" chicken, which Anand described as a boneless breast marinated with pesto sauce and a touch of Indian spices and served with mint chutney. Another selection from the menu is lobster masala, lobster tail cooked with onion, garlic and white wine.

The restaurant has an open mike night every Tuesday and live jazz Friday nights.
