When chef Rudis Miranda became full owner of the former Di Maggio's Seafood & Grill in Port Washington, he changed the name to the more descriptive Waterview Restaurant, 45 Orchard Beach Blvd., Port Washington, 516-944-5900. Miranda, who also previously cooked at Tutto Pazzo in Huntington, offers a seafood-slanted Italian menu that goes well with the waterside setting.
Although the banal bread basket containing cottony rolls had me thinking that dinner would be a dull affair, I was pleasantly surprised by a fresh and savory swordfish steak, served with broccoli rabe. Chicken scarpariello was also well executed.
Miranda, who came to this country from El Salvador at the age of 14, makes a lush and silky flan, something one doesn't expect to find at an Italian restaurant. The restaurant also defies the usual principal that the better the view, the lesser the food.
