Trattoria Diane has undergone several lives. In its latest, the theme is northern Italian, and many of the dishes are good, frequently better. Yet, this is a hard restaurant to recommend. The attitude often is chilly and the service lackluster. And you could be exiled upstairs and have an every dimmer experience. If you're willing to put up with the mood and the attitude, stick with the pastas and the seafood dishes. More fun is the Panini Cafe downstairs. Just as brusque, especially when crowded, but you expect it. The panini are very good. Best of all, of course, is the bakery. But you'll have to deal with a brusque staff. Unfortunately, "accommodating" never is the watchword here.
