Abel Conklin's

54 New Street
Huntington, NY
631-385-1919

For 20-plus years, Abel Conklin's has been a mainstay in downtown Huntington. It has a clubby feel and is populated with regulars. This camaraderie doesn't always extend to the first-timer. But generally, the restaurant is an easygoing establishment, good for straightforward food and a drink or two. Better appetizers are the gravlax and the smoked salmon, the shrimp cocktail and the steak tartare. And the main courses to remember are the aged porterhouse steaks, for one, two, three or four persons, and the filet mignon. After that, it gets riskier. But you'll be all right with the crab cake and the burger, too.

Hours: Dinner every day. Lunch, Monday to Friday.
