Margo & Frank's Mermaid

It looks pretty much the way it must have when it opened in 1976, with its kitschy sea-going décor, but if it's short on innovation, the Mermaid is long on charm. The menu is pretty much what you would expect from an Italian-accented Freeport fish house: plenty of seafood served either fried or broiled, plus lobster fra diavolo, shrimp scampi and scungilli and calamari marinara.

Pies and special desserts are homemade on the premises.

The cheerful dining room has a view of the restaurant's parking lot, but the outdoor deck stretches right along the canal.
