Paul's

21 Hill Street
Southampton, NY 11968-5316
631-283-1861

Paul's has been part of downtown Southampton since Nixon was president. It's a moderately priced, casual spot for Italian favorites, emphasis on pasta and pizza. That alone could account for its perennial status in a region of annuals. The sandwiches include an Italian hero loaded with salami, ham and provolone; a rarity, roast beef Parmigiana on garlic bread; and a chicken-and-avocado club in case a friend from California is in town. The competition is from wraps: southwestern, meaning pepperoncini, turkey and salsa; and the steak wrap, with peppers, onions and mozzarella, among others. The pizzas range from the basic cheese pie to the Grandma, a thin-crust number with fresh mozzarella and basil; a pesto-and-plum tomato version to the "Hampton garden" with vegetables. Dinner specials: feta and spinach salad, grilled yellowfin tuna, penne puttanesca, chicken oreganata. Pastas: manicotti, lasagna, stuffed shells, baked ziti, gnocchi with pesto, pasta primavera. You'll have plenty from which to choose, before or after the movies.
