New American is theme at Sutton Place "great American bar & grill." The comfortable, unpretentious establishment has an eclectic menu, going from burgers and sandwiches to more ambitious main courses. It's one of the right places to go if you're en route to a show at the Jones Beach theater, too. Sample the grilled sea scallops, pan-fried crabcakes, and Buffalo-style chicken wings. The competition comes from onion soup, the Asian coconut-shrimp salad and the Caesar salad. Pepper-crusted rare tuna with wasabi-whipped potatoes, and wood-roasted entrees, from tuna and salmon to filet mignon and shrimp, head the main courses. The burgers satisfy, especially the bacon-cheese production. For dessert, try the New York-style cheesecake or the chocolate-pecan tart.
