San Marco has been one of the mainstays of Hauppauge's restaurant row since 1987. It's a dependable, old-fashioned Italian spot, with some continental asides. Service is smooth and the ambience pleasant enough. It's the kind of eatery that would be right either for a business lunch or a social dinner. Among the winning dishes are pappardelle with tomatoes and basil, gnocchi in meat sauce, baked clams, fried calamari, roast duck with raspberry sauce, and a range of veal dishes. Desserts are traditional and fine. It's easy to become a regular here. Many have, and with good reason.
