Sweetwaters

Casual and undemanding in the dining room, respectable in the kitchen, Sweetwaters has the appeal of an informal date spot. The ambience is on the kitschy side and the service can be uneven. But order conservatively and you'll do well. Fried calamari and stuffed clams are preferable to seafood cakes and stuffed mushrooms. The salads are dependable, notably the sliced apple number with Gorgonzola, cashews and good greens; and the spinach salad finished with a warm bacon vinaigrette. Skirt steak and the New York strip head the entrees. And the place has a reputation for its dessert fondues: chocolate, chocolate-peanut butter, S'mores and Snickerdoodle, which means chopped peanuts and caramel in milk chocolate. The New York-style cheesecake is a more reliable selection.
