La Ginestra

Glen Cove is loaded with Italian restaurants. La Ginestra is one of the best, situated where dining veterans will remember Restaurant Zanghi. This restaurant has been packing tables for more than a decade, and it's very consistent. The dining room itself is an easygoing spot, unpretentious and to the point, just like a lot of the food. The kitchen prepares tasty carciofi alla Giudia, or tender artichokes in olive oil; fine carpaccio, whether beef or salmon; and a gutsy opener of sausages and broccoli rabe sauteed with olive oil and paired with polenta. The gnocchi Bolognese gets a boost from pine nuts and currants, the pasta Siciliana brings together curly fettuccine and eggplant, and the penne alla veddanna translates into the quill-shaped pasta with beans, escarole, garlic and tomato. You'll also enjoy the veal chop giardiniera, capped with a mixed salad; calf's liver alla Veneziana; chicken scarpariello; sauteed red snapper and the zuppa di pesce.
