House of India

Modest in size, House of India goes in for big flavors. It's a good stop whether you're new to the cuisine or a veteran of vindaloo. And it's downtown Huntington's little spice market. At lunch, try the vegetable curry and the tandoori chicken, along with the very good breads, from onion kulcha the whole wheat bread with potatoes. They prepare a satisfying mulligatawny soup, plump vegetable-filled samosas; lamb boti kebab and chicken jeera cooked with cumin, garlic, ginger and green pepper. The lamb vindaloo raises the BTUs, as does the boneless chicken version. Lobster vindaloo is less successful. For dessert, sample the rich rasmalai and the honeyed gulab jamun. A mango lassi, refreshing and cool, works as a finale, too.
