Bruce's

Bruce's is a Great Neck institution that is part bakery, part deli, part diner and all excess. Long before your meal shows up, you will be confronted with a basket overflowing with mini muffins, rolls and pastries. There is something on the huge menu to satisfy any yen--burgers, fried chicken, pastrami, wraps, French onion soup, chicken soup with matzoh balls or kreplach, pasta primavera, knockwurst, shrimp kebabs, chicken pot pie, spinach salad, felafel, even pizza--but Bruce's is also one of those places where it always feels like the right time for breakfast. Matzoh brie (scrambled, pancake-style or mixed with smoked salmon and onions) is a favorite, along with omelettes, pancakes, waffles, French toast, crepes and smoked-fish platters. Almost half of Bruce's floorspace is given over to the bustling bakery, and most of the hundreds of items can be had in the dining room. Catering is also available.
