The Modern Snack Bar and it's large distinctive sign have been North Fork landmarks for years. In 1950 the Wittmeier family opened a restaurant serving short orders and shakes. How far it's come. While you can still get a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, fries, cole slaw and a pickle and a milk shake for under $10, you could just as well get the roast half Long Island duckling, with stuffing, gravy, and applesauce, with potato, vegetable and bread basket for $16.95. Or try the broiled fresh flounder stuffed with crabmeat with potato, vegetable and bread basket for $15.95. The "famous" lobster salad comes on a bed of lettuce with tomato, potato salad and a pickle, also $16.95. All menu items are available for takeout. The Snack Bar serves beer and wine.
