Once dubbed "America's Most Beautiful Village," this vacation hot spot still justifies that accolade, particularly during off-peak seasons. If you visit during the summer, however, try to make it a day trip. Overnight accommodations come with Manhattan prices and often require a minimum three- to five-night stay. The town itself boasts charming ponds, windmills, palatial estates and friendly residents. Those with money to burn will appreciate the amenities: multiple fitness centers, beauty salons, spas and a vibrant nightlife scene.
