They charge by the person in Long Beach, but it's worth it. It's $20 per person over the age of 13. Season passes are available. Groups of 10 or more can get deals.

The boardwalk is a cool walk, lined with apartment buildings with jealousy-inducing views of the water.

Long Beach is Nassau County's surfer paradise and there are beach volleyball leagues as well. Bikes and rollerblades are permitted on the boardwalk.

Get there crazy early on weekends if you expect to park close. If it's after noon, take the first spot you see and hoof it if necessary.
Don't be afraid to park on the east end and walk a few blocks west to the boardwalk. You'll often find more parking there.
