(b) Wertheim Refuge, Smith Road off Montauk Highway, Shirley; 2,550 acres; 4 miles of hiking trails through oak and pine forest, grassland and wetland; canoeing on Carmans River (launch site at Montauk Highway and Smith Road); canoe rentals at Glacier Bay Sports, 2979 Montauk Hwy., 631-286-0567. Fishing permitted from boat; interpretive hikes; self-guide education materials; cross-country skiing; good bird-watching spot; wheelchair accessible trail; rest rooms, information kiosk.
