5,800 acres, pitch pine and oak, some open fields; plus 13.8 miles of marked hiking trails, trailhead for Paumanok Path to Montauk Point (go to www.hike-li.com for more information on this long distance trail), 6 1/2 miles of bridle trails, 30 miles mountain bike trail. Bike trails closed Nov. 1- March 31. Hunters: October-March 31. Firearm deer hunting January 2008 weekdays only.

Requirements
Daily permit for November and December; available at the Ridge hunter station. Reservations needed for Nov. 1, weekends and holidays; daily permit is required for firearm deer-hunting (awarded by drawing only)
Season
Year-round except during January deer season. Access is by seasonal permit from the state Department of Environmental Conservation and a daily-access hunting permit November-December and in January deer hunting season (free)
What to hunt
Small game, including water fowl and stocked pheasant and deer. Hunting before Nov. 1 (for crow, woodcock and goose) and after Jan. 31 (for rabbits and some other small game) is by seasonal access permit
